I know it’s been ages since I’ve posted, and I still need to do a top 10 anime of 2021 post, but the new anime season has arrived, and I’ve greatly enjoyed a number of premieres, so I thought I would give my first impressions of these anime. Continue reading
Anime Discussion
Popularity vs Quality in the Anime Community
One of the most hotly debated topics in anime is the relationship between how good an anime is and how popular it is. Does popularity mean a show is good? Does a lack of popularity mean it’s bad? Could the reverse be true for both of these situations? What is the relationship between popularity and quality? Continue reading
Kodaka Strikes Again: Akudama Drive is Stylish, Fun, Intriguing, and Absolutely Nuts
My hope last year was to make the optimal top 10 anime of the year list, by not missing anything clearly top 10 worthy. It seems I have failed at that yet again, because Akudama Drive was not on my top 10 anime of 2020. Continue reading
Anime/Video Game Cross Recommendations
If you’ve spent a decent amount of time on social media engaging in fandom activity, you might have noticed there is a decent amount of overlap between fans of anime, and fans of Japanese video games, such as visual novels and JRPGs. Continue reading
Anime Awards 2020
It’s that time of the year. Time for the anime awards. I wanted to make sure I watched a good amount of anime so I could make an anime awards posts with a good variety of anime, and I’m finally satisfied enough to make this post. Continue reading
In Defense of Elaina: A Misunderstood Witch
Of all the anime this season to be controversial, the last show I would have expected to have people in a frenzy is Wandering Witch: The Journey of Elaina. It’s not one of my favorites this year, or even this season, so it’s not one of my top picks for shows I’d like to write about. But the criticism of this show has been so mind-bogglingly nonsensical that I feel compelled to write about it, and defend it.
Continue readingI Should Have Watched Astra Lost In Space Sooner
Last year I did a top 10 anime of the year list. I didn’t watch much last year, so it wasn’t a very good favorites list. Another reason why that list sucked was because Astra Lost In Space wasn’t on it.
Continue readingMore Anime to Watch During the Quarantine
A few months back I wrote a blog with 10 anime to watch while quarantined. Unfortunately, it seems like we are going to be quarantined for a long time due to the incompetence of the government, especially if you live in America.
Continue readingWhat Makes The Asterisk War Stand Out
A few years ago, The Asterisk War aired and left a pretty negative impression on the anime community. It was just another generic magic high school anime with a bland protagonist and a harem. There was an immense amount of hatred that only seemed to grow over time, to the point where it seems most people agree it’s garbage. Continue reading
Viewer Emotional Response in Anime
The dichotomy of emotion vs logic is treated very similarly to the dichotomy of subjective vs objective. Emotion is seen as biased, as a way to cloud your fair judgement. Logic is seen as a means to judge anime on it’s own merits. I think this is an idea that fundamentally doesn’t work because fiction is made to elicit an emotional response from the audience.
